THE ATLAS ART CONTEST
PURPOSE: Art has a persuasive power like no other form of human communication. Artists project—and viewers respond to—a re-creation of reality: an imagined reality informed by our beliefs, values, and emotions.
Though Ayn Rand is revered—and reviled—as an intellectual, a writer, and a philosopher, she was, above all, an artist. Through her drama, she projected a romantic vision of a different world—a world in which heroic men and women struggled against and ultimately triumphed over immense obstacles. She used art to portray people not as they are but as they could be: to illuminate human potential, to light the path forward, and to lead the way.
Rand observed that a moral ideal is "almost impossible to communicate without the assistance of art." Today, the moral ideals of reason, achievement, and individualism are in danger of being lost, with dire consequences for a free society. These ideals must be renewed in every generation through the imagination and talent of artists who, like Rand, can lead the way.
To encourage this renewal, we at the Atlas Society—a 25-year-old think tank devoted to the philosophy of Objectivism—will invite artists to explore Ayn Rand's world of ideas in visually arresting, engaging, and alluring new ways. Painting, sculpture, cartoon, photography—entrants choose the media as they also compete for cash prizes.
THIS CONTEST IS INTENDED FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AT THE TIME OF ENTRY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED. Sponsor's determination as to whether the image violates the rights of any third party is final.
No third party trademarks/logos/intellectual property. Be careful that your image and/or caption doesn't inadvertently contain a trademark or logo because that may cause your image to be disqualified. Examples: a trademark/logo on a baseball cap, sneakers, or t-shirt. The ONLY permitted trademark or logo is The Atlas Society logo, which is not required to be in your image, and will not influence the judging.
Sponsor is not responsible for late or incomplete Entries. If a problem occurs in the online submission process or in uploading an image, Entrant should receive an "Error" message. However, the responsibility to electronically complete the Entry process and upload an image is the Entrant's and the Sponsor shall not be responsible for any image not actually received due to incomplete or improper transmission. Similarly, the Sponsor has no obligation to advise Entrant of an incomplete Entry.
Entrants may capture the image themselves, or Entrants may have another person capture the image. If someone other than the Entrant has captured the image, the Entrant must have permission from that person to submit the image and Entrant must be able to obtain a signed release from the photographer upon the request of Sponsor.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Entrant warrants and represents that the image:
- is an original work; If there are collaborators on the project, they must be named on the entry form. The Atlas Society reserves the right to request proof that your entry is your original work. Non-compliance with this rule by the Entrant will disqualify the Entry.
- does not infringe the intellectual property, privacy, publicity rights, ownership, or any other legal rights of any third party.
At the discretion of The Atlas Society, winners may be required to ship the original Entry (framed if a painting) of the Entry to The Atlas Society at a location to be determined by The Atlas Society in order to display the work to the public. If The Atlas Society requests shipment, The Atlas Society will pay shipping costs for the work of art to the display location and back to the artist once the public display is completed. The request, if made, will be conveyed to the winner at the time of winner notification. The Atlas Society will be granted the right to display the work at a location of its choosing for up to three months.
Each entrant irrevocably grants Sponsor and its affiliates, legal representatives, assigns, agents, and licensees, the unconditional and perpetual right and permission to reproduce, encode, store, copy, transmit, publish, post, broadcast, display, publicly perform, adapt, exhibit, and/or otherwise use or reuse (without limitation as to when or to the number of times used), each element of the Entrant's Entry, and use of the Entrant's name, likeness, photograph (collectively, "Likeness"), and/or statements regarding his/her participation in this Contest (with or without using the Entrant's name) in any and all media without limitation as to time or territory, and without compensation or approval from the Entrant or any other party. Entrant waives intellectual property rights, privacy/publicity rights or other legal rights that might preclude the Sponsor's use of any element of the Entry, and agrees not to sue or assert any claim against the Sponsor for the use of any element of the Entry or Entrant's Likeness or statements. Entrant agrees to indemnify and hold Sponsor, its agencies, and Contest Parties, and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, or other partners, and any of their employees (collectively, the "Indemnities"), harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) and liabilities (including settlements), brought or asserted by any third party against any of the Indemnities due to or arising out of the use of any element of Entrant's Entry, or the Entrant's conduct in submitting an Entry or creating and image or otherwise in connection with this Contest, including but not limited to claims for trademark infringement, copyright infringement, violation of an individual's right of publicity or right of privacy, or defamation. Entrant further agrees to release Sponsor from any and all claims that any advertising subsequently produced, presented, and/or prepared by or on behalf of Sponsor infringes Entrant's rights with regard to any elements or ideas contained in any element of the Entry.
SELECTION OF FINALISTS, PUBLIC VOTING, AND WINNERS

- Is there a creative interpretation of the theme?
- Is the work original and thought-provoking?
- Is there overall quality and command of the medium being used?
- Does the Entry have a high level of artistic and creative merit?
Note: The quality of the images will also play a role in the judging process.
Up to twenty (20) Entrants in each contest will be declared Potential Finalists by the judges, subject to verification, and will be notified at the contact information provided at the time of entry. Potential Finalists will be notified within three (3) days after the "Finalist Selection" is complete. Potential Finalists must respond within forty-eight (48) hours. If a Potential Finalist does not respond in the allotted time, the Potential Finalist will be disqualified and a different Potential Finalist will be selected. Judges' decisions are final.
Potential Finalists may be required to complete, sign, and return and Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability Release, and, where lawful, Publicity Release. If required, all completed documents must be returned to Contract Administrator within seven (7) days of the date notice was sent or Potential Finalist status will be forfeited and an alternate Potential Finalist will be selected.
Potential Finalists who follow these terms will be deemed "verified" as Finalists and have their Entries move to public voting.

Finalists' Entries may also be posted for public voting on other social media pages operated by Sponsor during the same period, at Sponsor's sole discretion.
Limit one (1) vote per IP address.
Consumers will be asked to vote on which Finalist Entry is the best Finalist Entry based on the same judging criteria listed above in "Selection of Finalists." A Finalist may encourage family and friends to vote for his or her Entry, but a Finalist may not attempt to induce others to vote for his or her Entry through the use of any incentive, sweepstakes, or other promotion.
Any use of automatic voting methods by any party will void all such votes and may result in the Finalist's Entry being declared ineligible and disqualified from the Contest. Any attempt by a Finalist and/or his/her family or friends or community to vote more than once per IP address using "bot" technology and/or any other fraudulent mechanism, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion, shall give Sponsor the right to disqualify the Finalist.
